🥩 40% of Young Women Iron Deficient!?!

🥩 Hello Meatlings,
How many times have we heard that Americans overeat damn meat?
Jst 12% of Americans eat half of all the beef consumed in the U.S. daily (primarily men, good for them!).
Yet the rest are eating just barely above the RDA; fun fact: the RDA is set at a level to prevent overt nutrient deficiencies. That is why “nearly 40% of girls and young women in the U.S. may have iron deficiency, which can lead to fatigue and increase the risk of many health problems,” according to a study published last summer. Besides fatigue, a significant overlooked risk of this deficiency is related to the risk to the fetus during pregnancy.
Adequate iron intake during pregnancy is vital, not only for reducing the risk of numerous adverse pregnancy outcomes but also because your iron status during pregnancy is one of the strongest predictors of whether or not your kiddo will be iron deficient in the first two years of life.
These years are vital to brain development, and iron is one of many nutrients required. In fact, new evidence-based dietary guidelines for feeding infants from birth to 24 months old recommend meat as an ideal first complementary food. Starting at 6 months old, infants need a variety of nutrient-dense foods, including foods that are rich in bioavailable iron and zinc. Because infants and toddlers eat small quantities of food, making every bite count in the early years is critical.
Remember to emphasize high-iron foods as some of the first solids you introduce to your infant (typically around six months). The two richest sources of the most absorbable form of iron—called heme iron—are liver (homemade pate is excellent) and oysters (the texture of canned oysters is safe for babies; look for ones canned in olive oil).
These foods also contain numerous complementary nutrients that promote brain development, like choline, vitamin B12, zinc, and more. Egg yolks, rich in choline, cholesterol, and other brain-nourishing substances, are another baby superfood. Skip the rice cereal!

📰 News & 🔬 Research
👴🏼 The polyamine Spermidine is linked to longevity. As the name implies, spermidine was first characterized in sperm. While a high concentration is present in semen (and it appears essential for fertility), it’s everywhere—in all eukaryotic cells. When we look at the “hallmarks of aging,” or the drivers of aging at a cellular level, spermidine has been shown (in animal and cell models) to have pleiotropic effects, favorably modulating all of the nine original hallmarks plus the three new hallmarks, including dysregulation of macroautophagy, dysbiosis, and inflammation. Organ meats, aged cheeses, and bee pollen are rich sources.
🤨 A new study claims protein damages arteries. However, investigators didn’t even look at artery damage.
😬 Today's youth are weaker than ever, new study finds. Along with declining measures of cardiorespiratory fitness in children and adolescents, temporal trends indicate a steady decline in selected field measures of muscular fitness (i.e., muscular strength, muscular endurance, and muscular power) in youth globally.
The cause is straightforward. Sports participation is declining, and screen time is increasing. Only 1 in 5 adolescents meets international physical activity guidelines.
Physical activity, including strength training, is highly desirable for youth. Research shows it offers many substantial physical and mental health and performance benefits.
🧮 Did you know? Protein has 3.2 kcal/g, not 4 kcal/g, net metabolizable energy. Most people in fitness are familiar with the Atwater factors of metabolizable energy: 4 kcal/g for carbs and protein, nine kcal/g for fats (and 6.9 kcal/g for alcohol). These estimates are based on heat production, not the body's capacity for energy expenditure. The body cannot use all of that energy to produce ATP. Specifically, microbial fermentation and obligatory thermogenesis produce heat that doesn't generate ATP for the body. As a result, protein has only 3.2 kcal/g on average, which the body can use, not four kcal/g.

Beef can heal the world
Joel Salatin said, "The goal of sustainable agriculture should be to regenerate the soil and the ecosystem, not just to maintain them."
The bureaucrats, who know nothing about soil or agriculture, propose solutions that worsen things.
They have never been and will never be the answer.
The answer always lies in the market, with individuals who spend their money in a way that either supports or takes away from nature.
Supporting farmers and ranchers raising carbon-negative pasture-raised beef is doing more for the environment than those who decide not to eat meat.
Not consuming a product does much less than using a product that regenerates soil and ecosystems.
Every bite of delicious regenerative meat becomes a miracle for your health and the world!
They demonize the very thing—beef—that can solve so many of the food and health problems we face today.
Curious, isn't it? 🤔
