🥩 Hello Meatlings,
A study suggests you need to eat twice as much of soy protein to gain the same benefits of eating beef. They looked at muscle protein synthesis and plasma amino acids in the post-meal window. Here were the three feeding groups:
4 ounce serving of a beef patty (27 grams of protein)
4 ounce serving of Impossible Burger (20 grams soy protein)
Two, 8 ounce servings of Impossible Burger (40 grams of soy protein)
They found eating a 4-ounce beef patty may help your muscles grow better (stimulating muscle protein synthesis) than a 4-ounce soy-based patty and just as well as an 8-ounce soy-based patty. Eating that second 4-ounce plant-based patty comes with 60% more calories and 18 more grams of carbohydrates than just one 4-ounce beef patty. Learn more about the study here:

🍳 Eggs: Eggs don’t cause heart disease: A new study, "Debunking the Myth: Eggs and Heart Disease," adds to this growing evidence and goes further. It suggests that "eggs have been an integral part of the human diet since the domestication of hens" and recent additions to the human diet like “fructose-rich breakfast cereals, coffee drinks with sugar levels comparable to candy bars, and heightened consumption of seed oil” are responsible for the surge in cardiovascular disease. The study reviews decades of research on eggs and cardiovascular disease and finds they are beneficial—not harmful—to our health. So enjoy that next omelet!
💧 Major court victory in the fight against water fluoridation: A recent federal court ruling in California raised significant concerns about the safety of water fluoridation. The judge found that fluoride levels considered optimal in the U.S. (0.7 mg/L) pose an "unreasonable risk" of reduced IQ in children. This decision contradicts longstanding assurances from public health officials about fluoride's safety. The ruling cites multiple studies linking fluoride exposure during pregnancy and childhood to cognitive deficits. As the judge states in the ruling, “There is little dispute in this suit as to whether fluoride poses a hazard to human health. Indeed, EPA’s own expert agrees that fluoride is hazardous at some level of exposure." This is a major victory after decades of disinformation and obfuscation about the “safety” of fluoride in drinking water.
☹️ Nearly 60 percent of Americans eat a pro-inflammatory diet: A new Ohio State study found that 57% of American adults consume diets that promote inflammation, significantly increasing their risk of chronic disease. Using the dietary inflammatory index to analyze the eating habits of over 34,500 adults, researchers found pro-inflammatory diets more common among Black Americans, men, younger adults, and those with lower education and income. This aligns with other recent studies suggesting that over 60% of Americans' calories come from ultra-processed and refined foods. As the saying goes, “You are what you eat.” If we consume foods full of pro-inflammatory ingredients and devoid of nutrients, we shouldn’t be surprised by the outcome: rising rates of obesity, chronic disease, and early death.
⏰ Time-restricted eating shows promise for metabolic syndrome: A new clinical trial from Salk Institute and UC San Diego revealed that one in three Americans has a dysfunctional metabolism, largely driven by pro-inflammatory diets. The researchers also found that time-restricted eating effectively addresses metabolic dysfunction, even in those already on medication. Participants who ate within an 8-10 hour window daily for three months saw improvements in blood sugar regulation, metabolic function, and body composition. This simple lifestyle change offers a practical, side-effect-free alternative to expensive medications.
