🥩 Hello Meatlings,
If I were an Olympic athlete, I would be pissed off right now. The motto of the Paris Olympics: more French, more local, less meat. First, the good news, getting more locally produced food is fantastic, and I think it should always be a priority:
Under the Paris 2024 "Food Vision," a quarter of the food supplied to athletes must be produced less than 250 kilometers from the place of competition to reduce carbon emissions from transporting fresh produce. French produce is also prioritized, with a goal of 80% of the food provided being made in France.
However, we see another example of meat being vilified (instead of limiting, they could choose to source from local ranchers). Athletes require a high protein diet for muscle recovery, and Olympic athletes even more. Imagine the unnecessary added stress the athletes have to deal with now trying to figure out how to obtain their protein macros.
Do you think athletic performance will be the same as previous games? We'll soon find out!

📰 News & 🔬 Research
🐄 Bovine lactoferrin, a candida killer. Those suffering from candida (yeast) overgrowth experience a wide range of gastrointestinal problems, including bloating, gas, cramps, and altered bowel movements. Candida has also been linked to everything from skin issues to brain fog to hormonal imbalances. Here’s the good news: we have new tools in the fight against Candida overgrowth. One of the most promising is a protein called lactoferrin. A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis examined the antifungal effects of bovine lactoferrin against Candida. The researchers found that lactoferrin suppressed drug-resistant Candida strains— the most difficult to treat! Cows for the win!
🥛 Bovine colostrum: a secret weapon for athletic performance? A recent meta-analysis found that it boosts athletes' immune function, reduces respiratory infections, shortens recovery, accelerates healing from injuries, and improves performance. Of course, these benefits extend beyond professional or amateur athletics—they apply to anyone engaged in regular exercise or physical activity (which, hopefully, includes everyone reading this!).
🟥 Red light exposure supports blood sugar control. Researchers found that just 15 minutes of exposure to 670 nm red light reduced post-meal blood glucose levels by 27.7% in healthy people. Red light stimulates the mitochondria to produce more energy, causing cells to consume more glucose. The benefits spread throughout the body, even with localized light exposure. While the study was in healthy individuals, it holds promise for managing diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Our modern environment is saturated with blue light—adding red light is one way to counter the consequences of this.
🩻 Calcium score predicts heart attack stroke (better than cholesterol). A new study found that a coronary artery calcium (CAC) score of zero on a CT scan indicates a shallow risk of heart attack or stroke. In the study, only 0.5% of people with a CAC score of zero had a major cardiovascular event over 3.5 years of follow-up. Previous research has shown that calcium scoring is more accurate than lipid markers like total or LDL cholesterol in predicting future risk of cardiovascular events.

🕯️ We've been in multiple Airbnbs in the last 50 days. Nearly all have bright and fluorescent light full of daylight spectrum and blue light. Blue light is toxic at night, especially since it disrupts your circadian rhythm. These orange lights are LIFE SAVERS for reading to the kids and getting up at night.
