š„© The Blue Zones Myth: A Plant-Based Lie
Our mission is to promote the benefits of a meat-based diet so we can fight back against the anti-meat rhetoric pushing too many modern humans in the wrong direction. We win by introducing as many individuals as possible to this results-driven way of life.
š„© Hello Meatlings,
I promised Part 4 examining the American Heart Association this week, but something else more pressing is at hand: the new Netflix documentary Secrets of the Blue Zones. Dan Buettner, a vegan, popularized Blue Zones by writing a book about five areas of the world that possessed the Blue Zones trait. The Blue Zones are such a hot topic, and while they highlight a lot of crucial healthy lifestyle habits associated with longevity, the plant-based diet bitĀ is bogus.
Iāve written about this in the past,Ā hereĀ andĀ here. It sounds unbelievable; like why would this guy make it up? But honestly, thatās whatās happening.
AnĀ interview with Dr. Mark Hyman Buettner states: āIn all honestly, Blue Zones did eat meatā¦ But it was infrequent, often as a condiment.Ā We decided to stay 100% plant-based within the Blue Zone family.ā This is a lie; meat intake has been a staple in many of these locations, and he decided to fabricate the Blue Zone diet that fits his vegan agenda.
Anthropologist Dr. Bill Schindler went to the epicenter of the original Blue Zone. He showed that they were wholly mischaracterized as mainly plant-based when they are, in reality, very heavily meat-based. Have a listen to him and Dr. Anthony Chaffee:
Other problems: not only does he lie about the diets of the cultures he highlights, but he also omits countries known to eat a lot of meat and live long and healthy lives, like Hong Kong + Icelandic groups. Recently, there has been scrutiny over theĀ biographical record-keeping in these regions.
Hereās anotherĀ articleĀ that outlines the plant-based problem with each Blue Zone.
What matters: high activity, a strong sense of community, a deep connection with nature,Ā higher cholesterol, slightly higher iron, low glucose, andĀ strong musclesĀ are all critical factors impacting your longevity and rate of aging.
From Diana Rodgers, RD:Ā A healthy diet includes fresh fruits and vegetables, AND beef in addition to other animal proteins, like seafood, dairy, and eggs. These animal-sourced foods can provide high-quality, low-calorie protein, vitamin B12, iron, choline, creatine, and DHA, to name a few.Ā
Another secret to longevity? Various studies find low muscular strength is associated with diabetes, cognitive decline (e.g., Alzheimerās disease), and early all-cause mortality. Now, there isĀ new researchĀ that is the first to find increased strength is linked with a slower pace of biological age. Those who are well-toned and muscular indeed look more youthful.

š„ Colostrum for gut health and immunity:Ā It is Mother Natureās first food for the developing microbiome of all mammals, including humans. It contains nutrients, immunoglobulins, passive antibodies, and signaling peptides honed over millions of mammalian evolution to protect offspring from infection and train and shape the emerging immune system.Ā This paperĀ inĀ Frontiers in NutritionĀ provides an excellent overview of the many benefits of colostrum for both gut and immune health.
š§ Scientists found creatine actually supports the brain for aĀ better aging process.Ā Some studies show itĀ improves short-term memoryĀ and intelligence, and reasoning scores. But it doesnāt stop there. The literature also shows creatineĀ enhances ATP energy production.Ā Creatine is found naturally in animal products but is one of the safest and most affordable supplements to add to your daily regimen to make sure youāre getting enough on a daily basis.
š¦ Gut bacteria may be a clue that Alzheimer's is on the way: Scientists have found that people who later develop Alzheimer's disease have different gut bacteria than healthy people, many years before they show any signs of memory loss. Although it is not yet clear whether these changes in gut bacteria cause Alzheimer's or vice versa, it is likely that both are involved.
š§Wondering what's in your tap water?Ā Drinking clean, pure water is essential for our health, but how do we know what's in our local water? The Environmental Working Group's Tap Water Database is aĀ free resourceĀ that allows you to search for contaminants in your tap water by zip code. It also compares the levels of contaminants to EPA-suggested levels.
š¤§ A new study in mice suggests that improving gut health may help reverse food allergies.Ā ResearchersĀ gave mice with gut dysbiosis a unique form of butyrate, which restored their gut microbiomes and reduced their reactions to allergenic foods.Ā
šµ Intake of animal protein associated with age-related frailtyĀ A study last year found that the percentage of protein relative to total calories was, somewhat surprisingly, unrelated to frailty in elderly Spanish adults. However,Ā frailĀ older adults consumedĀ significantly less animal proteinĀ than robust people. What's more, those with high intakes of animal protein were significantly less likely to be frail. Animal protein is often more bioavailable and complete amino acid profile than plant proteins.
